Azerenerji JSC
Azerenerji JSC is Azerbaijan’s state-owned electricity generation and transmission company, responsible for the operation, development and modernization of the national high-voltage power system. Through its generation assets and transmission network, the company supports reliable electricity supply, system stability and the integration of new generation capacity. Azerenerji operates a high-voltage transmission system covering 110, 220, 330 and 500 kV infrastructure, with more than 7,600 km of transmission lines. The company is also implementing major grid modernization and renewable-energy integration programs, including the Azerbaijan Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Project (AZURE), developed with World Bank support. Current priorities include green generation development, strengthening substations and transmission corridors, deploying battery energy storage, and upgrading digital control and monitoring systems such as SCADA and WAMS/WACS. Azerenerji is also involved in infrastructure supporting Azerbaijan’s emerging green-energy export ambitions and regional electricity interconnections.

Our Products / Projects

High-Voltage Electricity Transmission Network

Azerenerji operates Azerbaijan’s high-voltage electricity transmission network across 110, 220, 330 and 500 kV voltage levels. The network includes more than 7,600 km of transmission lines and a large portfolio of high-voltage substations. Its infrastructure provides the backbone for electricity transfer between generation facilities, regional load centers and distribution networks. Ongoing modernization focuses on increasing reliability, reducing technical constraints, strengthening key substations and expanding transmission capacity to accommodate new generation. The network is also being upgraded to support the growing share of variable renewable energy and to improve the resilience and flexibility of the national power system.

Azerbaijan Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Project (AZURE)

Azerenerji is implementing the Azerbaijan Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Project (AZURE) with support from the World Bank. The project is designed to strengthen Azerbaijan’s transmission system and enable the safe and reliable integration of large-scale renewable generation. Key infrastructure includes the 500/330 kV Navahi substation, high-voltage transmission lines and extensions at major substations. The program supports the integration of solar and wind projects and includes improvements to system operation, control, battery energy storage and advanced monitoring. The project creates potential areas for cooperation with international companies in high-voltage equipment, grid technologies, automation, storage, engineering and related services.

Navahi Energy Hub and High-Voltage Transmission Expansion

Azerenerji is developing the Navahi Energy Hub as a major high-voltage node for integrating new renewable generation into Azerbaijan’s power system. The project includes a 500/330 kV substation and new 500 kV and 330 kV transmission corridors connecting the hub with major power-system nodes and renewable power plants. The wider program includes connections associated with the Banka and Bilasuvar solar power plants and additional network reinforcement. The infrastructure is intended to increase transfer capacity, improve system stability and provide a flexible platform for the expansion of renewable electricity generation.

Battery Energy Storage and Renewable Integration

Azerenerji is deploying large-scale battery energy storage systems to improve power-system flexibility and facilitate the integration of renewable energy. Projects at the Absheron and Agdash substations are designed with a combined power capacity of 250 MW and storage capacity of 500 MWh. Battery storage can support frequency stability, manage renewable generation fluctuations, compensate for short-term power imbalances, reduce peak-load pressure and improve system restoration capabilities. The deployment of battery storage is being combined with upgrades to grid control, dispatch and monitoring systems, creating opportunities for cooperation in battery technologies, power electronics, energy-management systems and grid integration solutions.
